PHILLIPSBURG FOOTBALL'S THANKSGIVING DAY/BY THE NUMBERS

Phillipsburg suffered one of its more disappointing defeats in recent memory in Thursday's 21-14 loss to Easton in front of the usual sold-out house at Lafayette's Fisher Stadium.

But the thrilling, back-and-forth game produced a lot of interesting statistics and results for the Stateliners (10-1). We take a look at the game by numbers, both good and bad, for Phillipsburg.

1

Number of penalties on Phillipsburg. But it was a big one -- a five-yard 'snap infraction' that moved the Stateliners from Easton 3 to the 8 for first-and-goal. Phillipsburg did not score on the possession.

3

Number of turnovers committed by Phillipsburg Thursday. They had 4 in the previous 10 games.

8

Number of tackles by Phillipsburg sophomore Bobby Coury, third-highest in the game. We predict it won't be the last time Coury features on such a list.

8.5

Number of defensive plays Phillipsburg senior safety Jevon Boothman was in on -- 5 tackles, 0.5 for loss, 1 interception, 1 pass breakup, 1 quarterback hurry.

12

Number of tackles made by Phillipsburg senior defensive tackle Nick Josselyn, who was the named the game's Easton Lions Club defensive Most Valuable Player by the media.

14

Points Phillipsburg might have led by the in first half but for the interception by Easton junior cornerback Damion Smith the end zone in the first quarter. A 14-0 Stateliner lead would have made the game feel very different.

25

Percentage of Phillipsburg conversions on third (3 of 10) and fourth (0 for 2) downs.

36

Yards of Easton senior quarterback Scott Poulson's game-changing second-quarter scramble that set up the Rovers' first touchdown. The Stateliners had all kinds of chances to stop Poulson on the run and will rue the missed opportunities.

55

Yardage of Stateliner junior Nasir Ball's fourth-quarter TD catch.

78

Receiving yardage, on four catches, by Easton senior wide receiver Eddie Olsen. All four catches by Olsen came at dagger times for the Stateliners, including a 43-yarder and a 13-yard touchdown. Phillipsburg was very aware of Easton senior wideout Jake Herres' threat (he caught 6 passes for 98 yards) but Olsen proved a danger as well.

91

Yardage of Phillipsburg senior tight end Sean Morro's first-quarter touchdown catch, the longest TD reception in the series by a Stateliner.

91

Yardage total (on 17 carries) by Phillipsburg junior running back Sterling Walker-Sutton, filling in for the injured Joe Green.

92

Total yards by Phillipsburg after halftime (237 in first half).

262

The passing total of Phillipsburg junior quarterback Jack Stagaard, an all-time Easton-Phillipsburg series record.

1,055

Rushing yards compiled in 10 previous games by Phillipsburg junior Joe Green, who did not play Thursday due to injury.

14,000

(Approximate) number of fans watching at Fisher Stadium Thursday. Place was well-packed.
